- Osis Roderick

WITH THREE teams already sent their bags packing home, six remaining colleges and universities duke it out for the play offs in a race for basketball supremacy.

Reigning back to back men's basketball titlist University of the Cordilleras gets a rare crack for a grand slam after topping group A while 25 time champion University of Baguio gets another chance for redemption when it topped group B as the second round in the centerpiece tournament of the Baguio - Benguet Educational Athletic League season gets going on November 10.

Both power houses are set to meet on the 16th at the UB gym which starts at 5:30 in the afternoon.

UC Jaguars head coach Albin Santos said this will be their toughest test in the tournament who is seeking history in the league's 32 year existence.

"I think we are the underdog because we don't have the height right now and UB is still considered the team to beat considering their line -up right now," added Santos.

Kicking off their campaign in the second round is Baguio College of Technology Atoms which came in second in Group B against Group A second seed Philippine Military Academy Cavaliers on the 10th at the CCDC gym.

The Atoms, which

came in second in group B, will be playing sans big man Armando Pollante who was disqualified for the remainder of the season after it was found out he enrolled a subject he already took and passed some years back only to get the minimum load to be able to play.

The UC Jaguars on the other hand will have its hands full against former back to back champion and Group B third seed Cordillera career Development College Admirals on November 12 at the UC Gym while the UB Cardinals tests the mettle of Saint Louis University Navigators which finished third in Group A.

The second round continues on November 14 with the Cavaliers taking on the Admirals the PMA Jurado Hall then on the 15th with SLU squaring off against BCT at the SLU Prince Bernhard Gym.

On the 19th, SLU returns to action against CCDC at the SLU gym while UC gets to test BCT on the 20th as PMA and UB plays each other in the final day of the second round of the tournament at the UB Gym on November 21.

Baguio Central University Eagles(1–4), Benguet State Univesity (0-3) and season host University of the Philippines (0-4) was already booted out of the competition.

After the second, only four teams advance to the semis with the top two squads enjoying a twice to beat advantage.
