Southwoods cut Luisita lead by two

Golf and Country Club and Manila Southwoods head to the Baguio Country Club for a showdown on Wednesday after the latter cut the lead to only two in the 69th Fil-Am Invitation­al Golf Tournament.

Eddie Bagtas shot a two over 71 for 34 points today, Dec. 3, as Luisita assembled a second day 124 for 249 points and retain a two shot lead over Manila Southwoods going to the difficult Baguio Country Club on Wednesday.

of the two squads as they take a day rest going to the tough par 61 BCC course after two days at the Camp John Hay course.

Jingy Tuazon made up for his day noncount as he came in with 31 points, Raffy Gacia made 30 points and Rodel Mangalubna­n added 29 to count for the team.

Manila Southwoods had a mammoth game from former pro Raul Minoza as he submitted the first sub-par performanc­e, a one under 68 good for 37 points to lead the Carmona, Cavite based squad to 127 points and 247 total.

Theody Pascual was at one over 70 for 35 points as he backstoppe­d Minoza, while Sang Jun Sin had a 30 and Judd Roy had 25 to count for Southwoods.

Bong Sison came in with a bum stomach and limped home with an 18 and did not count, even as Tommy Manotoc took a breather for the BCC showdown.

“The other teams really played well, but we are still happy to have the lead despite our not so good performanc­e,” summed Garcia of Luisita.

“We are still good and very happy that we still held on to the lead,” he added.

Garcia said that BCC will be the deciding factor, calling in as the “reckoning” on who will be this year's champion.

Megafiber equalled Southwoods production of 127 with Jose Mari Hechanova making an even par for 36 points.

Abe Rosal made 32 points, Rolly Viray accounted for 30 points and Dave Hernandez chipped in 29 to count for the team which now has 239 points.

Tom Daily had 28 points as Okinawa Golf Team came in with 98 but was penalized for two points for an aggregate 203.

Over at the BCC, Luisita practicall­y matched its first day start then saw Camp John Hay foundering to take a 13 point and give its title retention bid a boost.

Danilo Cruz made 30 points, Edmund Yee had a 27, Benjie Sumulong and Chito Laureta added aq pair of 25 as Luisita came in with 107 for a two day total of 215.

That is now 13 off CJH after a first day five point deficit after the co-host could only manage an 89 with Fred Puckett doing most of the job after a 26.

Goody Ignacio, Monet Garcia and Villamor Bumanglag had 21s for the co-host's total and 202 aggregate going to their home course.
