PHLPost rec­og­nizes com­mem­o­ra­tive stamps to mark birth cen­te­nary of na­tional artists

TO com­mem­o­rate Filipino tal­ent, the Phil ip­pine Postal Cor­po­ra­tion (PHLPost) to gether with Na­tional Com­mis­sion for Cul­ture and the Arts (NCCA) ac­knowl­edged the com­mem­o­ra­tive stamps to mark 2017 and 2018 Birth Cen­te­nary of seven Filipino Na­tional Artists on Novem­ber 29, 2018 at the NCCA Au­di­to­rium.

Six (6) Na­tional Artists were born on 1917 mark­ing their 100 years on 2017, namely; Ce­sar Legaspi (Na­tional Artist for Vis­ual Arts), Daisy Avel­lana (Na­tional Artist for Film and The­ater), Jose Maceda (Na­tional Artist for Mu­sic), Leonor Orosa-Go­quingco (Na­tional Artist for Dance), Wil­fredo Ma. Guer­rero (Na­tional Artist for The­ater), and Nick Joaquin (Na­tional Artist for Lit­er­a­ture), while Lu­cre­cia Kasi­lag (Na­tional Artist for Mu­sic) marked her 100th year this 2018.

The recog­ni­tion pro­gram opened with a wel­come re­mark from NCCA Chair­man Na­tional Artist for Lit­er­a­ture Vir­gilio Al­mario and in­tro­duc­tory speech from NCCA Deputy Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor Marichu G. Tel­lano. PHLPost Post­mas­ter-Gen­eral Joel L. Otarra also shared a brief word about the com­mem­o­ra­tive stamps. Fam­i­lies and rel­a­tives of the na­tional artist re­ceived their copy of the com­mem­o­ra­tive stamps PHLPost gave trib­ute to the coun­try’s na­tional artists who made sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tions to the de­vel­op­ment and prop­a­ga­tion of Philip­pine arts and cul­ture.

The stamps fea­tured the pho­to­graphic il­lus­tra­tions of each na­tional artist and the year of their birth cen­te­nary.

PHLPost has printed P50,000 copies of the P12 de­nom­i­na­tion which was de­signed by the stamp artist Vic­torino Z. Serevo.

The stamps are avail­able at the Post Shop, Cen­tral Post Of­fice, Door 203, Li­wasang Boni­fa­cio, Manila and area post of­fices na­tion­wide.
