LMD in­vites stu­dents for mardi gras cel­e­bra­tion

AROUND 1,400 Ele­men­tary and Sec­ondary stu­dents of Lepanto Na­tional High School and Lepanto Ele­men­tary School were in­vited by the com­pany to par­tic­i­pate in Christ­mas Pa­rade/Street Danc­ing and Lan­tern Con­test in Cel­e­bra­tion of Mardi Gras last De­cem­ber 3.

An Amount of P94,000 from Lepanto Min­ing Com­pany is at stake for the win­ners of the street danc­ing and lan­tern Pa­rade. Guide­lines for the ac­tiv­ity and the cri­te­ria for judg­ing was pro­vided by the com­pany with a theme, “Bring­ing to Brighter a Com­mu­nity”. The par­tic­i­pants for the con­test were cat­e­go­rized. Cat­e­gory 1 for the sec­ondary level (per grade) and cat­e­gory II for the Ele­men­tary level (Per grade).

Mardi Gras is a French word for “Fat Tues­day” and it refers to events of the car­ni­val cel­e­bra­tion, be­gin­ning or after the Chris­tian Feast of the Epiphany (Three Kings Day) and cul­mi­nat­ing on the day be­fore Ash Wed­nes­day. It is of­ten ob­served with pa­rades and merry mak­ing. It is cel­e­brated in many coun­tries around the world-mainly those with a large Ro­man Catholic pop­u­la­tion on the day be­fore the re­li­gious sea­son of Lent be­gins.

The re­sults of the con­test for cat­e­gory 1 were First Place-Grade 10 with a prize of P14,000; 2nd placeGrade 8 with a prize of P12,000; 3rd PlaceGrade 9 with a prize of P10,000 and 4th PlaceGrade 7 with a prize of P8,000. For cat­e­gory II1st Place- Grade 3 (Prize P11,000); 2nd Place –Grade VI (Prize P9,000); 3rd Place – Grade IV (Prize P8,000); 4th PlaceGrade 2 (Prize 7,000); 5th Place- Grade 1 (Prize P5,000); 6th Place – Kinder­garten (Prize P4,000) and 7th Place – Grade 5 (Prize P4,000).

Amidst hot weather, the stu­dents en­joyed the pa­rade with their cre­ative cos­tumes creat­ing dif­fer­ent noises and danc­ing on the streets wel­com­ing Christ­mas sea­son. The com­mu­nity as well cheered and ap­plauded the dancers. The Christ­mas Pa­rade in the morn­ing was fol­lowed by Christ­mas tree and Lepanto Tun­nel of Lights light­ing at six o’clock in the evening.
