Sun.Star Baguio - - Prime Sports - PSC release

TAGBILARAN City in Bohol and Ormoc City in Leyte are now in a tug-of-war to become the host of national finals of the Philippine Sports Commission’s grassroots and mass base sports development program Philippine National Youth Games-Batang Pinoy (PNYG-Batang Pinoy).

It was revealed by PSC Chairman William Ramirez during the memorandum-ofagreement signing with the representatives of the Davao Del Norte, Isabela and Iloilo that will host the Mindanao, Luzon and Visayas qualifying legs of the multi-sports tournament for 15years-old and below inschool and out-ofschool youth.

Provincial Government Department Chief and Youth and Sports Development head Giovanni Gulanes represented Governor Antonio del Rosario for Davao Del Norte that will host Mindanao Qualifying Leg this February 2-9.

Representing Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III and Iloilo Provincial Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. was City Sports coordinator Moises Salomon for being the Visayas qualifying leg host starting February 23 to Marso 2.

Luzon qualifying leg host Ilagan City, Isabela sent a complete team to represent Mayor Evelyn Diaz with General Services Office head Ricky Laggui, City Information Officer Paul Bacungan, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation president Nicole Balingao and track and field regional director Drolly Carvajal for the March 16 – 23 meet.

“We are sealing this partnership with our host LGUs to ensure mutual cooperation and achieve a successful staging of Batang Pinoy from Mindanao, Visayas and to Luzon,” said Ramirez of the meet that was almost cancelled this year but was reconsidered after the LGUs and Department of Education bent on its huge help for the youth.

“It was almost cancelled because of program duplication but hiniling sa atin ng mga LGUs at DepEd mismo na ituloy dahil hindi lamang nito nabibigyan ng pagkakataon ang mga estudyante kundi pati na ang mga out-of-school youth at ibang mahihirap na kabataan na umunlad sa sports,” Ramirez said.

“Our governor Anthony Del Rosario believe that sports is a highway to the development of a country and he sees in Batang Pinoy as the best opportunity to realizing the progress of our province,” Gulanes said of Davao Del Norte.

“Our City Mayor Evelyn Diaz express her full support on the sports development program of PSC that is why the city of Isabela is extending and is always open to all its upcoming events and activities,” said Laggui for Isabela that will also host the 2019 SEA Youth Athletics championships and Philippine Athletics Open.
