Rainy nutrition month and induction program
LUNETA Elementary School pushes its Nutrition Month celebration and induction program with the theme “Kumain Nang Wasto at Maging Aktibo, Push Natin ‘To!” (Eat right and be active, let’s push this) on August 8 despite of the rainy weather. The supposed schedule was July 31. The program was postponed due to the inclement weather.
The guest speaker, Itogon I District Nurse Lorna Diwas, talked about the causes of non-communicable diseases, importance of immunizations and deworming, and reiterated that eating healthy foods should not only be during the month of July but all year through.
She also reported the weight results of the pupils where one is wasting, seven are overweight, one is obese and 14 are stunting. Diwas also tackled the diagnosis of each cases and the importance of physical activities and early morning exercise as an intervening solution. School canteens, according to Diwas, should also be monitored on the foods it serve.
Meanwhile, due to alarming cases of dengue in some districts in Benguet, she also discussed the characteristics of dengue fever. Luckily, there is no reported cases yet in the school.
There will also be an immunization by the Department of Health (DOH) from grades one to six on September.
The program continued with the induction of the Supreme Pupil Government (SPG) and the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) officers by the School Principal Mateo Mayos Jr. and Loacan Barangay Kagawad Carlos Gansoen respectively. Mayos and Gansoen gave some pieces of advice and enumerated the officers’ duties and responsibilities as mentioned in their oath. Gansoen reiterates anew the prevention of dengue carrying mosquitoes in the community.
Though it was a rainy celebration; the pupils, parents and teachers enjoyed the moment through the feature presentations and the recognition of every grade levels, and so with the bonding it brought. The program ended with a delicious lunch, contributed by the parents and teachers.
