INSPECTIONS for establishments along Governor Pack Road continue as Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong continues his drive to clear sidewalks at the congested area.

Magalong said he has given ultimatum to establishments which have encroached over sidewalks to self-demolish extensions made and noted some have yet to follow orders.

The mayor added plans for the area include installation of covered walkways for passengers andstudents to utilize.

“Aayusin natin ito, lagyan natin ng covered walkway. I gave them until August 13 to comply, yung iba hindi pa naka comply, nag commit na sila ulit,” Magalong said.

Magalong said establishments have to take out extensions they put which block passageways on sidewalks, adding he is still not satisfied with the easement offered by some stores in the area after his first inspection as he asked owners to back up equipment and wares towards their shop peripherals.

“Pag lumabas na estudyante at pasahero sabay sabay maglalakad mga tao sa likod [the streets] kasi kinain nila side walk,” added Magalong.

The chief executive conducted the inspection Wednesday, August 14 with Baguio City Police chief, Allen Rae Co, City Administrator, Boni Dela Pena, Nazita Bañez, head of the City Buildings and Architecture Office and barangay officials.

The past month, Magalong met with Session Road-Gov. Pack Road barangay officials together with bus and van operators days after he assumed office to set order in the area aiming to free sidewalks in the area which is a passageway for students and waiting area, loading-unloading and waiting area bus passengers as well.

Aside from the establishments encroaching on the sidewalks, Magalong also gave bus companies without garage areas an ultimatum to comply.
