Lifetime heirloom

- Teofilo Clara

EDUCATION imbues a sense of purpose that serves as a greatest heirloom for some but is not for others because everyone has their own definition for education. Taking into consideration that some professionals and young learners often hear the common line, “be courageous and persevered in your study for that is your only legacy that will be bequeathed from us.” It might be a pity approach but deep inside has a very meaningful meaning that served and still serving as a key to success.

Education, it might appeal only as a nine letter word but covers every destination of a person. Business establishments and offices need a well-educated person for the success of the company. For instance, even the position of a janitor, college graduate is one of the qualifications.

Besides, a story of a construction worker and his daughter from La Fortuna, Oriental Mindoro went viral on social media because both were barefoot during the daughter’s graduation. They became the subject of memes depicting the superhero, Superman not just because the father wears a superman t-shirt but because he was able to send his daughter to school and accompanied her in her graduation despite their social status.

Other people might negatively judge it taking that graduation is one of the special moments a child can experience in his/her life, then, why the father did not sacrifice a little to wear such formal clothes and bought sandal for his daughter. On the contrary, some looked at the bigger picture of the father and daughter story. It is not the luxurious clothes and ornamentals that matter but instead the importance of education and a better future.

The story should serve as an inspiration to other people and not waste the opportunity to study. As some parents always say “Education is the greatest and lifetime inheritance that cannot be taken away.”
