Cordillera leads in sustainable goals monitoring
THE PHILIPPINE Statistics Authority – Cordillera (PSA – Cordillera) reported the region is leading in monitoring the localized United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 (UN SDGs 2030) among all regions in the country.
Aldrin Bahit, PSACAR statistical operations and coordination chief during the 3rd Quarter Regional Statistics Committee (RSC) meeting recently said these statistical indicators will be used to measure and monitor the progress and development of the region and the country in terms of the worldwide UN SDGs until 2030.
In 2016, the United Nations identified 17 goals with 230 indicators to provide the over-190 UN membercountries a development direction until 2030.
These SDGs highlight the need for an improvement of quality of life while ensuring sustainable use of resources worldwide.
Through various workshops and technical working groups since 2016, PSA-CAR has worked with National Economic and Development Authority and the Department of the Interior and Local Government in the region for the localization and operationalization of the UN SDGs among regional agencies and local government units.
Bahit shared the Cordillera region was the first region to identify the set of indicators to measure and monitor the regional progress in achieving the UN SDGs 2030.
This initiative of the region served as a model for other regions where data used for indicators were provided by the various Cordillera regional line agencies.
“Once the national targets have been set, we will be ready and this is possible through the support of the RSC members,” Bahit added.
Milagros Rimando, NEDA-CAR regional director emphasized the SDGs are an international commitment and it is important to track and monitor these goals.
The statistical indicators are being constantly improved and the PSACAR provides constant
