City to purchase 7 ha. lot for tree farm
THE LOCAL government will be purchasing a 7-hectare private land located within the boundary of Baguio City and Tuba, Benguet which will be used as a public tree farm for the growing of assorted tree species that will be distributed to individuals and groups interested to actively participate in the efforts to bring back the greenery of available spaces in the different parts of the city.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong informed members of the City Advisory Committee composed of respected individuals in the city that the local government will start prohibiting the planting of trees in watersheds in the different parts of the city considering that the survival rate of the planted tree seedlings is reportedly very low and the same does not serve its purpose.
Magalong added some P100 million will be sourced out from available funds of the city will be earmarked to purchase the property so that the local government will spearhead the establishment of a tree farm where assorted tree species will be frown for 2 to 3 years before being distributed for planting to have greater chances of survival and for the trees to serve its purpose of bringing back the greenery of the city.

For the Oct. 27 event, Aki Inway Reyes said the “Run for Mental Health” is hoped to bring together about 300 runners- supporters of mental health.
He said the fun run is a fundraising event with a registration fee of P350 for the threekilometer distance; P450 for the five kilometers; P550 for the 10-kilometers and P650 for the 21 kilometers.
“The funds we will raise will be used to jump-start the creation of a non-government organization that will cater to mental health issues and form ‘Project Kampana’ where a website and an application will be created to aid those in the sector,” Reyes said.
In a report published at the World Health Organization website on October 4, it said “one in four people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives. Around 450 million people currently suffer from such conditions, placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill-health and disability worldwide.”
