GBDAIS main joins 5th Benguet Teachers’ Day
TO promote cultural appreciation among the indigenous people of Tuba, Barangay Tabaan Sur through its Indigenous Peoples Municipal Representative (IPMR) office partnered with Indaoac Elementary School (IES) in teaching young learners on cultural dances, chants and ways of living.
This is also in connection with the cultural contest sponsored by the municipality of Tuba in partnership with the Department of Education and the Department of Health with the theme: “Pansaksahey Ni E Tuba Ugadin Agmadibgan” on Oct. 25 at the municipal ground.
IPMR Lea Laruan of barangay Tabaan Sur volunteered to teach the school children of IES on how to dance the ‘tayao’ and play the Ibaloi gongs and solibao.
Laruan said that aside from dancing the ‘tayao’ she will also be teaching some Ibaloi terminologies and ways of living.
“As part of the IPRA law and our municipality’s Sustainable Development Program (SDP), we are mandated to educate our children about our culture for them not to forget it,” said Mrs. Laruan.
Henry Tinaza, school head of IES, welcomed the partnership as it will foster stronger camaraderie between the community and the school.
“We appreciate this initiative of our barangay council through their IPMR representative because it will further raise the awareness of our learners about their culture and this approach will also strengthen our camaraderie with the community,” commented Tinaza.
“I can see that our children are very interested to learn how dance the ‘tayao’ and are very good in playing the musical instruments,” added Tinaza.
According to Laruan, only selected barangays of Tuba will participate in the municipal contest.
“Atleast I can see the enthusiasm of our children to learn our cultural dances and I also appreciate our teachers because of our good partnership,” commented Laruan.
