46,914-households benefitted from SAP

-

SOME 46,914 households from the city’s 128 barangays were able to receive P5,500 under the national government’s Social Amelioration Program (SAP).

This was revealed by Betty Fangasan, head of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) during the city’s management committee meeting recently.

She said the city disbursed about P256.1-million to SAP beneficiaries over the course of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and onset of the general community quarantine (GCQ).

Disbursement of the assistance formally ended May 25, she added.

Fangasan said a liquidation report will be submitted to Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera (DSWD-CAR) soon.

Earlier, DSWDCAR gave the city some 45,000-slots for potential SAP beneficiaries.

This, pursuant to the provisions of the Bayanihan to Heal Us One Act of 2020 (RA 11469).

The SAP is extended to households whose income were impacted by the Luzon-wide ECQ instituted by the national government to prevent spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid – 19).

Meantime, Fangasan revealed, DSWD will ascertain

qualification of beneficiaries for the second tranche of the SAP for areas under GCQ.

She thanked barangay officials, volunteer teachers, social workers, law enforcers and other volunteers who extended assistance to the CSWDO in screening and validating applicants; and, in processing and distributing the SAP to qualified beneficiaries.

Councilor Michael Lawana, Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) head, expressed his elation no barangay official in the city had been charged by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for alleged abuses in relation to the

SAP distribution.

He claimed, despite the enormous tasks assigned to local officials during the ECQ and GCQ, they were able to rise above themselves, ensuring the concerns of their constituents were addressed by the appropriate agencies of government.

As head of the ABC, he assured barangay chiefs will remain committed in ensuring programs, projects and activities of the local government during the quarantine period and beyond, will reach targeted members of the respective constituencies.
