BSU’s new president takes oath
DR. FELIPE Comila will serve as the seventh president of the Benguet State University (BSU) in La Trinidad, Benguet.
Comila was selected by the BSU Board of Regents with Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner Lilian De las Llagas who officiated his
official oath of office on Thursday in a virtual conference.
The newly appointed president in his message, pledged to continue his vision for BSU to become an international university, engendering graduates to walk the intergenerational highways and follow the mission BSU CARES which stands for Caring to challenge innovation, Advance technology and facilities, Revitalize administration, Engender partnership, and Serve to sustain intergenerational roles.
“The only thing I would do is to give the best service so that we go on with the progress in this province. May this university show a contribution for the development of the province of Benguet and the Cordillera,” he added.
Before his appointment as BSU president, he worked as the director for BSU's Institute of Public Administration and was the officer-in-charge vice-president for Academic Affairs and former special assistant to the University President.
He said he will give attention to faculty staff, and set development goal to address the Covid-19 pandemic such as sustaining protocols set by the government on ; we heal and recover as one' and the need to sustain health and wellness among employees and students, sustain the use of learning modalities and work-at-home.
“We continue to strengthen the connectivity and communication transportation, corporate social responsibility of the university and continuously monitor the critical care capacity of the university to students, employees, and stakeholders,” Comila added.
“We will continue as I mention to offer the new programs such as medicine, law and accountancy, certificate in crisis management.”
Aside from Comila, there were four other applicants who presented their goals, vision, and mission for the university.
The other candidates are Dr. Jimmy Fong, Dr. Serafin Ngohayon, Dr. Joel Lubrica, Dr. Maria Luz Fang-asan and Comila.
The search committee was chaired by lawyer Cinderella Filipina Benitez-Jaro, executive director of Ched Central Office, together with Dr. Cecilia N. Gascon, president of Bulacan State University, PASUC Representative; Dr. Jimmy Catanes, Ched Representative; lawyer Leonardo Lee Lawana, private sector representative; and Professor Vicente Panagan Jr., academic sector representative.
