Benguet donation reaches typhoon victims
DIFFERENT stakeholders in Benguet recently pooled resources as donations reached Cagayan, Isabela, Albay to aid recovery from typhoons Rolly and Ulysses.
During Benguet’s foundation day, members of the League of Associations at the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post, the umbrella organization of vegetable stakeholders the country’s busiest vegetable trading area delivered donations collected.
Nora Ganase, league president said stakeholders from different associations of packers, truckers, porters, farmers, drivers pitched in cash donations and gathered P300,000 utilized to purchased goods.
“Little by little, at least we were able to raise money and help Cagayan,” Ganase added. “We have members of the league who are also selling in Cagayan. Our members selling in trading post asked for the people of Cagayan to be also given aid because of what happened. In celebration of Benguet Foundation Day on Nov. 23 we decided to give the donations.”
A 10-wheeler truck carrying the relief goods reached five most affected barangays in Cagayan.
Instead of vegetables, food and clothes were donated.
The ‘Bayanihan para sa pagbangon ng Cagayan’ drive of the league together with the La Trinidad Community Chapter, Baguio City Community Chapter, Baguio Bartek Community, University of the Cordilleras, Baguio Barter Community Official, Veluz, JPM Enterprises, Marti Carlo, Triseklion Benguet Council and different chapters of the organization in and outside Baguio and Benguet.
In La Trinidad, the Sangguniang Kabataan also raised P100,000 from residents to be donated to the typhoon Ulysses victims in Sta. Maria, Isabela.
At the provincial capitol, the members of the Benguet Provincial Government Employees Association also launched a project ‘Albayanihan: Binnadang for Albay’ where clothes, food and water including vegetables were donated to victims of Typhoon Rolly and Ulysses in Albay for them to cope with the calamity.
