Mankayan records first Covid-19 death

A 59 – year – old male from Barangay Paco in Mankayan, Benguet is the first Covid- 19 death-related case recorded in the municipali­ty.

On Wednesday, the local government unit confirmed the male patient died due to acute respirator­y distress syndrome secondary to Covid-19.

During his stay at the Lepanto Hospital, he was swabbed with an antigen test kit yielding Covid-19 positive.

Mayor Frenzel Ayong said the decease is a retired employee of

Lepanto Consolidat­ed Mining Corporatio­n (LCMC) and a resident of Barangay Paco.

Ayong said it was on November 10 when the town recorded a confirmed case involving a mine worker of LCMC.

As of December 2, there are 285 active cases in Benguet with 1, 777 recoveries out of the 2,080 confirmed cases and 18 deaths.

La Trinidad has 113 active cases followed by Mankayan with 98, Tuba with 35, and Itogon with 25.

It was in August this year when Benguet recorded its first Covid19 death from Itogon.
