Prov’l buses to operate in Baguio soon

- Jonathan Llanes Sun*Star Reporter

RESUMPTION of operations of public utility buses ( PUB) to and from Baguio City is seen to start within the next two weeks.

Lawyer Martin Delgra, chairman of the Land Transportation, Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) confirmed the operation of provincial buses in the Summer Capital during his visit in the city.

“The mayor said that the resumption would start within two weeks. We are now fixing this at the LTFRB but it will be on a limited basis because we need to clarify some aspects regarding its resumption,” Delgra said.

Based on LTFRB’s decision, the resumption would entail an increase in the number of passengers once the clarification is finalized, but buses are still required to adhere to minimum health protocols issued by the national government to combat the coronavirus.

“It would be a one seat a part and not the 50% operation,” Delgra added.

In the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Land Transportation Office ( LTOCAR) regional director Francis Rey Almora earlier explained resumption of provincial bus operations entering and operating within CAR would depend on the decision and recommendations of local government units ( LGU) while strictly following the health protocols against Covid-19.

Almora reiterated that even if LTO would give permission for provincial buses to operate, this would be subject to conditions set by the LGU’s like its current implementation of health protocols.

LTO-CAR reiterated that the public should also consider the capabilities of the LGU’s on how they are able to manage individuals that maybe infected by Covid- 19, aside from available facilities for treatment.
