CSWD:P1.3 million for seniors intact

- By PJ Orias

City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) head Teddy Sabuga-a came to the city government’s defense saying the remaining unliquidated balance for the social pension fund is only 1.293 million and not P3.121 million as earlier disclosed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Northern Mindanao.

But Sabuga-a said although the P1.3 million is yet to be liquidated, the funds are intact and with the CSWD.

“Actually, P1.2 (P1.293) million nalang ang nabilin nga unliquidated, unya nagreply naman mi sa DSWD, ang sulod sa ilang recent letter is old ang ilahang ang information,” she said.

“Out of the P3 million, ang nabilin ang P1.2 million, wala pa nato na release because we just learned na ang uban senior citizens namatay na diay, while others, amo pa silang gina-locate,” he added.

But Sabuga-a assured that they are working to immediately liquidate the remaining P1.2 million.

Because of the problem, Sabuga-a said they will try to craft a new and efficient system to release the payouts for the senior citizens.

“Nagmeeting mi niaging semana nga gi-instruct mi ni Mayor Moreno to find ways nga ang system sa pension iagi na nato ug fund transfer, meaning through ATM,” he said.

“Through this new system, dili na perwisyo kay usa sa maka-delay sa distribution is magpila ang tawo, magtapok. Ikaduha nganung nalangan kay per barangay ang atong distribution,” he added.

The new system would update the list of senior citizen and would pave the way for hassle- free transactions with the senior citizens.

The DSWD-10 had sent a letter asking the city government to liquidate the P3.121 million which had been allocated to the senior citizen’s social pension fund.

DSWD 10 maintained that the city still has an unliquidated balance of P330,000 for Calendar Year 2016, and P2.791 million out of the P9.070 million transferred for the 1st and 2nd quarter of 2017.
