Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental has earned an On-Time Performance (OTP) Star Rating according to the results of the 2016-2017 Official Airline Guide (OAG).

Engineer Jose Bodiongan, CAAP airport manager, said the fact that Laguindingan Airport was included in the OTP Star Rating means that the airport’s performance is doing great.

Bodiongan added that he will continue to work on improving the airport and its services.

Out of the 79 airports managed by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) all over the country, other Philippine airports that earned star ratings in OTP are: iloilo International Airport, Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Bacolod-Silay Airport, Davao International Airport, Tacloban Airport, Kalibo International Airport, and Puerto Princesa International Airport.

The Iloilo International Airport landed in the 14th spot out of 48 international airports included in the survey, besting Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Seoul Incheon International Airport, and Hongkong International Airport in rankings.

The OTP star rating is an ongoing accreditation program which awards all airlines and airports a star rating twice yearly based on 12 months’ rolling performance. It has 1 to 5 star rating categories, with 5 being the highest.

In a Facebook post published by the Department of Transportation, they said that with continued improvements in airport facilities and services, they hope they will be able attain a 2-star rating soon.

The agency also assured the public that “improvements in infrastructure and policies are being pursued and implemented to make our airports at par with the world’s best airports.”

To achieve an OTP star rating, the world’s airlines and airports must meet two criteria: all airlines and airports must have a minimum of 600 operations a month (minimum of 2.5 million departed seats) and OAG must receive flight status information for no less than 80 percent of scheduled flights within a 12-month period.

The Official Airline Guide is the leading global provider of digital flight information and provide accurate, timely and actionable information and applications across the travel sector to the world’s airlines, airports, government agencies, aircraft manufacturers, consultancies and travel related companies.
