Subokin rallies to nip Stampede

-

SUBOKIN Expendables pulled a come-from-behind 102-100 squeaker over Stampede in the opening night of 1st St. Ignatius de Loyola Summer Basketball League on Wednesday at the Xavier University gym here.

Michael Paayas and Butchok Bioncog both scored 25 points each to lead Subokin’s maiden victory.

It was a great escape for the Expendables of coach Rocky Calingin as they trailed behind by 6 points in the final fourth quarter.

Dictating the game, Stampede ballers apparently collapsed in the last two minutes as Subokin unleashed an 8-0 run.

“Pilde na unta. Subokin showed its endgame maturity in the last two minutes,” commissioner Arvin Martinez said.

Chikoy Orcullo paced Stampede with 24 points while Ralph Penas added 19 markers.

The Expendables were still battling with HNH Builders, as of presstime, in their bid for 2-0 start.

The Builders absorbed an opening defeat at the hands of Arsenals, 71-104 during the opener.

Norman Ihalas led the Arsenals with 19 points, while Dondon Balo chipped in 16.

Visiting Tracy hoopsters were also playing with Stampede for their league debut, as of this writing. A solidarity toss officially opens the 1st St. Ignatius de Loyola Summer Basketball Tournament here on Tuesday at the Xavier University gym. (Jaime A. Frias II)
