Oro has to deal with heavy traffic

- By Alwen Saliring

HEAVY traffic built up along the stretch of the national highway from Puerto to Cugman, Cagayan de Oro City, due to the police’s tight and rigorous security inspections, Tuesday morning, July 3.

But, the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) clarified that there’s no new security threats for the city and the strict checkpoint is part of the strategy of the police to enhance anti-criminality, terrorism and insurgency efforts.

“This present checkpoint operation may alarm you but it is only normal to make you safe while you are in the city,” Cocpo said in a statement.

Cocpo spokesperson Superintendent Mardy Hortillosa II said policemen in the city are not letting their guards down as the general threat level for the city remains at ‘3’.

“Walay bag-o nga threat pero existing pa gihapon tong threat level 3 tungod sa mga information nga madawat nato sa posibilidad nga target sa mga terrorista ang CDO,” Hortillosa said.

Hortillosa said the police stations in the city are just following the directive of city police director Senior Superintendent Nelson Aganon to conduct simultaneous and strict security inspections in their respective jurisdictions.

Hortillosa explained that the Cocpo headquarters are the ones giving the time and designated place for the police to position the checkpoints.

He said police stations are required to conduct checkpoints at least six times a day.

“Dili mani bag-o nga order gipa-remind lang atong mga police for full implementation,” Hortillosa said.

The city police is asking the public’s cooperation to bear with them as this is to maintain security, and peace and order around the city.

Hortillosa said the heavy traffic is expected to moderate once law enforcers diligently do their duties during security inspections.

“Kung mag-traffic buot pasabot hugot nga gipatuman sa kapolisan sa hugot nga pagpatuman sa checkpoints. Kaniadto kung igo lang tan-awon ipalabay dayon karon dili na susihon gyud matag sakyanan molabay,” Hortillosa said.

“Cocpo made this not to give you inconvenience but to assure your safety and security. What we want from you is cooperation and understanding to boost the morale of our personnel on the ground who endure the heat and stress to keep you safe,” he added.
