Darimbang eyes mayoral run

- By Alwen Saliring

Former Cagayan de Oro City councilor Lourdes Candy Darimbang on Thursday, September 27, said she is considering running against Mayor Oscar Moreno for the city’s highest post in the 2019 midterm elections.

Darimbang said the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) is endorsing her to run for the mayoralty post.

“Gi-endorse ko sa partido to run for the highest post sa city,”Darimbang said.

Darimbang is the local standard bearer of the

PFP. She is the present PFP’s city chairperson.

However, Darimbang said it is not yet final because the decision has to be agreed with the allied party in the city, the Emano-led Padayon Pilipino and the Rodriguez’s Centrist Democratic Party (CDP).

“Since naa may coalition among party sa Padayon and CDP so kailangan naay agreement kinsa gyud ang ipadagan for mayor dili pwede nga mo-decide ko without their consent,”she said.

Darimbang said if the coalition fields other candidate for the mayorship, she would likely take the second top post.

She said she still has the interest to run again for a congressional seat for the city’s first district but her projects in the city and in the neighboring areas may prevent her from doing so.

Darimbang lost her bid against incumbent 1st district representative Rolando Uy in the 2016 elections in a difference of 5,886 votes. She contested the result before the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET).

She served a term in the city’s legislative body before challenging Uy in the last local polls.

Darimbang explained that the PFP has just been accredited by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc in Manila as a national political party last September 13.

She clarified that the PFP is the administration’s party as it was organized by the cabinet members of President Rodrigo Duterte.

The oath taking of the PFP officers in the city and in Northern Mindanao is slated on September 30.
