Creation of ‘Balay Silingan’ eyed in MisOr
Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano is mulling to construct a reformatory center for illegal drug peddlers in partnership with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Northern Mindanao (PDEA-10).
Emano has expressed his intention to adopt the national program of the anti-narcotics agency called “Balay Silingan” which aims to give arrested drug pushers a chance to reform their lives.
The governor is eyeing a portion of lot at the Phividec Industrial Authority to put up the facility.
“Akong ihangyo nga matagaan kita og yuta diha sa (I was requesting that we be given an area in) Phividec kay we want to put up there the center para niadtong madakpan nga mga (for those arrested) drug pushers ,”Emano said.
“Mao mani ang gihatag nga proposal sa PDEA nga magbutang og center para niadtong mga pushers kay mas taas ang tuig sa ilang reformation (This was the proposal of PDEA for pushers because they have longer years of reformation),” he added.
Accordingly, around 20-30 individuals will have to undergo the program within three to six months.
The capitol’s top official was interested with the “Balay Silingan” especially that some 50 villages in the province have been declared drug-cleared.
Emano said the provincial government has the budget for the construction of the facility.
“Naa man tay pondo nga magamit. Bisan dili maapil sa 2019 budget dili man maglisod pagrealign niana kay maayo man ang katuyuan ( We have available funds, and it will be easy to realign in case its not included in the 2019 budget because the purpose is good),” Emano said.
Emano is hoping that similar facility will be put up in 23 towns and two cities in the province.
