- By Alwen Saliring

Former Cagayan de Oro City second district representative Rufus Rodriguez is gearing towards completing the unfinished road works and set to build more infrastructure projects once he gets back the congressional seat in the 2019 polls.

Rodriguez said it is one of the main reasons why he decided to launch a congressional bid after finishing his three terms last 2016.

“I run basically because there are still projects nga unfinished and daghan ta gusto nga himoon pa,”he said.

Rodriguez was known to be effective in lobbying and getting budgets from congress to fund his projects for the second district.

Rodriguez said he already knows what to do and how to convince the congress to approve the budget.

“Wala kita mabintaha-i in the past nine years sa akong term. I know what to do to get more funds and people know I am a fighter in congress and I can debate with anybody because in congress you have to debate for your laws and when you ask for budget ,” Rodriguez said.

Among his priorities if gets elected are the extension of the coastal bypass road from barangay Gusa to Bugo and extension of JR Borja extension road (eastern interior road) from brangay Gusa to Puerto.

He said these projects will help ease traffic problem in the city.

“Para kini maminusan ang traffic sa city,”Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez also wants the completion of the alternate highway from Sayre Highway, passing the hinterlands of barangays Balubal, Agusan, Cugman, Indahag and straight to Pueblo de Oro, El Salvador City, and Alubijid towards the Laguindingan airport in Misamis Oriental.

He added that the road concreting and bridge construction must be continued in the villages of the second district especially in the countryside for easy and accessible delivery of goods from the farms to the market.

Rodriguez also wanted the Cagayan de Oro convention center fully completed and operational. The facility has not been used yet after the construction started in 2001.
