DICT, Idea­s­pace hold ‘ meetup’ for star­tups in Oro

The De­part­ment of In­for­ma­tion and Com­mu­ni­ca­tions Tech­nol­ogy (DICT) in part­ner­ship with Idea­s­pace Philip­pines, re­cently or­ga­nized a fo­cus group dis­cus­sion to ad­vance the de­vel­op­ment of star­tups in Ca­gayan de Oro City.

The one day ac­tiv­ity dubbed as “Startup Ecosys­tem Map­ping and Com­mu­nity Meetup”, was held in one of the ho­tels in the city where 20 se­lect par­tic­i­pants were in­vited be­cause they ei­ther are ex­pe­ri­enced or have ex­ist­ing pro­grams and ac­tiv­i­ties that sup­ports star­tups, tech­nol­ogy, de­sign and en­tre­pre­neur com­mu­ni­ties.

The meetup or the fo­cus group dis­cus­sion (FGD) was de­signed to es­tab­lish a col­lab­o­ra­tive at­mos­phere among the city’s tech­nol­ogy star­tups and as­pir­ing star­tups. A gath­er­ing of lo­cal lead­ers and com­mu­nity builders in the startup com­mu­nity, ICT coun­cil, academe, and the lo­cal gov­ern­ment unit to eval­u­ate and strengthen the lo­cal startup ecosys­tem.

Engr. Eu­gene Ra­pos­ala of the Min­danao Clus­ter 2, DICT, said that the or­ga­ni­za­tion of the FGD was to ap­praise the par­tic­i­pants of the cur­rent dig­i­tal startup de­vel­op­ment pro­gram-work­shops, train­ings, and other ac­tiv­i­ties- de­signed to pro­mote and sup­port star­tups and tech/startup com­mu­ni­ties in the coun­try.

Ra­pa­sola said that a startup or tech en­ter­prise typ­i­cally has three ma­jor cat­e­gories of tal­ent needed in or­der to launch a startup: Tech-pro­gram­mer, web de­vel­oper, mo­bile de­vel­oper, coder, soft­ware and ICT pro­fes­sional; De­sign- brand­ing; and the non tech part that han­dles busi­ness, mar­ket­ing, sales, fi­nance, sub­ject mat­ter ex­pert.
