Ateneo defends UAAP crown
ATENEO de Manila University (AdMU) successfully defended its crown in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball after a convincing 99-81 win over University of the Philippines (UP) in Game 2 at the Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, Dec. 5.
The Eagles immediately took the early lead with a 25-13 advantage after the opening quarter. UP fought back and had a good second quarter and trimmed the lead down to 11 at halftime, 48-37.
AdMU dominated the third quarter and led by as much as 18 points before the Fighting Maroons cut it down to 14 points at the end of the third with back-to-back baskets by MVP Bright Akhuetie and Javi Gomez de Liaño.
AdMU, however, started the fourth quarter hot with a 9-2 run for a 79-58 lead from a three-pointer by Thirdy Ravena.
Juan Gomez de Liaño, Cebuano Paul Desiderio and Akhuetie tried their best to keep UP alive but Ravena was unstoppable. Ravena exploded for 38 points, shooting 13 of 19 from the field and hitting five of eight from beyond the arc.

Kouame logged a doubledouble of 22 points and 21 rebounds along with a steal and two blocks.
Raffy Verano added 11 markers and seven boards. Juan Gomez de Liaño led UP from off the bench with 24 points, eight rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.
Akhuetie had 19 points, seven rebounds, a steal and a block, while Desiderio added 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. Javi Gomez de Liaño also chipped in double digits with 11.
