NDFP consultant arrested in Cavite

A NATIONAL Democratic Front of the Philippine­s (NDFP) consultant was arrested early Friday, December 7, in Bacoor Cavite, a police official said.

Criminal Investigat­ion and Detection Group (CIDG) Director Amador Corpuz identified the arrested NDFP consultant as Rey Claro Casambre, 67.

Casambre was nabbed together with his wife, Patricia, 65, executive director of the Philippine Peace Center, while aboard a vehicle along Alm Molino Boulevard, Bacoor, Cavite around 12:10 a.m. Friday, December 7.

Corpuz recovered inside the couple’s vehicle a caliber .45 pistol, one magazine for caliber .45, seven live ammunition for caliber .45, and one fragmentat­ion grenade.

Casambre has a standing arrest warrant issued by the Davao Oriental Regional Trial Court Branch 32 on November 23 for murder and attempted murder.

The arrested persons were brought to the CIDG headquarte­rs in Camp Crame for documentat­ion and proper dispositio­n.

Earlier, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the arrest of the Communist Party of the Philippine­s (CPP)-NDFP consultant­s and leaders following the cancellati­on of peace talks.

Arrested following Duterte’s pronouncem­ent were Rafael Baylosis and Vicente Ladlad who were both key leaders of the CPP-NDFP.

Baylosis was arrested on January 31 in a joint police-military operation in Quezon City for illegal possession of firearms.

He was nabbed along with a suspected New People’s Army member Guillermo Roque. Recovered from them were two caliber .45 pistols, 14 ammunition, and two magazines.

On November 8, Ladlad was arrested in a “safehouse” in Novaliches, Quezon City by virtue of a search warrant over illegal possession of firearms. (SunStar Philippine­s)
