NDFP con­sul­tant ar­rested in Cavite

A NA­TIONAL Demo­cratic Front of the Philip­pines (NDFP) con­sul­tant was ar­rested early Fri­day, De­cem­ber 7, in Ba­coor Cavite, a po­lice of­fi­cial said.

Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tion and De­tec­tion Group (CIDG) Di­rec­tor Amador Cor­puz iden­ti­fied the ar­rested NDFP con­sul­tant as Rey Claro Casam­bre, 67.

Casam­bre was nabbed to­gether with his wife, Pa­tri­cia, 65, ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor of the Philip­pine Peace Cen­ter, while aboard a ve­hi­cle along Alm Molino Boule­vard, Ba­coor, Cavite around 12:10 a.m. Fri­day, De­cem­ber 7.

Cor­puz re­cov­ered in­side the cou­ple’s ve­hi­cle a cal­iber .45 pis­tol, one mag­a­zine for cal­iber .45, seven live am­mu­ni­tion for cal­iber .45, and one frag­men­ta­tion grenade.

Casam­bre has a stand­ing ar­rest war­rant is­sued by the Davao Ori­en­tal Re­gional Trial Court Branch 32 on Novem­ber 23 for mur­der and at­tempted mur­der.

The ar­rested per­sons were brought to the CIDG head­quar­ters in Camp Crame for doc­u­men­ta­tion and proper dis­po­si­tion.

Ear­lier, Pres­i­dent Ro­drigo Duterte or­dered the ar­rest of the Com­mu­nist Party of the Philip­pines (CPP)-NDFP con­sul­tants and lead­ers fol­low­ing the can­cel­la­tion of peace talks.

Ar­rested fol­low­ing Duterte’s pro­nounce­ment were Rafael Bay­lo­sis and Vi­cente Lad­lad who were both key lead­ers of the CPP-NDFP.

Bay­lo­sis was ar­rested on Jan­uary 31 in a joint po­lice-mil­i­tary op­er­a­tion in Que­zon City for il­le­gal possession of firearms.

He was nabbed along with a sus­pected New Peo­ple’s Army mem­ber Guillermo Roque. Re­cov­ered from them were two cal­iber .45 pis­tols, 14 am­mu­ni­tion, and two mag­a­zines.

On Novem­ber 8, Lad­lad was ar­rested in a “safe­house” in No­valiches, Que­zon City by virtue of a search war­rant over il­le­gal possession of firearms. (SunS­tar Philip­pines)
