City Health Office records 256 dengue cases in January alone

The City Health Office (CHO) is urging barangays to intensify the “4S” strategy against dengue in their area as it recorded a spike in dengue fever cases in just a month.

City Health Officer Dr. Fe Bongcas said from January 1 to January 26 only, they have monitored 256 dengue cases in the city.

Bongcas said in the same period last year, there were only 70 dengue fever cases, but this month, the number not only doubled but quadrupled.

No deaths related to

dengue was however recorded so far.

But last year, Bongcas said dengue death toll rose to 8.

Barangay Carmen remains the number one village with the most dengue cases recorded. Barangays Lapasan, Kauswagan, Bugo, Balulang, Iponan, Lumbia, Camaman-an are also in the list.

“It’s very crowded and a big barangay, so we are really focusing our attention to this barangay. But we also commend them because their barangay brigade against dengue is very active, and this is what we have been campaigning, the community support because we cannot do it alone, we need to involve the public,” Bongcas said.

The city health office has directed barangays to follow the government’s “4S” strategy against dengue: searching and destroying mosquito breeding places; securing self-protection; seeking early consultation; and supporting fogging and spraying in hotspot places.
