Disgruntled residents call for Oro mayor to step down
Over 100 residents in Cagayan de Oro City who are against the administration of Mayor Oscar Moreno have organized and mobilized themselves on Thursday, to call on the sitting mayor to step down from city hall.
The participants came from the different barangays in the city and named their group Batakang Pangmasang Kagay-anon. They gathered around at the press freedom monument and marched to the Divisoria and went back to the venue.
Bebing Baslot, a resi- dent from Barangay Carmen who also led the group, said the participants do not know each other and just joined the activity because they share similar sentiments against the Moreno administration.
"Nagtapok lang mi diri gikan sa lain-laing barangay bisan ang uban dili magkaila kay gusto namo ipanawagan nga mokanaog na si Mayor Moreno,"Baslot said.
"Pagtapok namo diri wala may mag-lead so ako na lang ang nangulo,"she added.
She said they choose the press freedom monument and the capitol
ground as their venue because of safety and security.
Baslot said they want Moreno replaced because they no longer understand the leadership of the city government with a chief executive facing more than 70 cases.
“Ang among singgit nga ipakanaog na si Moreno tungod kay wala nami kasabot ngano
aha na ang hustisya nga daghan naman kaayo siyag kaso,”Baslot said.
Baslot also clarified that the activity was not initiated or supported by any politician or political group.
She said all of them volunteered to participate without getting something in return.
“Walay nagpaluyo namo nga si kinsa man nga politiko or grupo ug wala mi madawat kung mag-apil mi ani nga kalihukan
kay amo kining personal nga kabubot-on,” she added.
City Hall spokesperson Maricel Casiño-Rivera said such move is part of the grand design of the opposition to demolish and malign Mayor Moreno.
“It only shows how distorted their kind of politics is. It is a clear manifestation of how much they belittle the collective wisdom of the Kagayanons,” Rivera said.
