Police still on the hunt vs gun ban violators

THE Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) has vowed to continue going after those who possess illegal firearms even as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban is lifted today, June 13.

Cocpo spokespers­on Lieutenant Colonel Mardy Hortillosa II said this after a series of shooting incidents that happened in the city, recently.

“Cocpo will never stop in running after personalit­ies who possess illegal firearms especially lately that series of shooting incidents happened in the city and we cannot afford that it will proliferat­e in the future ,” Hort ill os a said.

“Dili pwede mag-relax mi kay naay mga shooting incidents nga gamit loose firearms,” he added.

Records from Cocpo showed around 74 people

were arrested for violation of the Comelec gun ban.

Police seized 20 pistols, revolvers and improvised guns; 54 bladed weapons; seven grenades, an explosive and 220 ammunition.

Cases have already been filed in court against violators.

However, Hortillosa said the city was safe and peaceful in the five months election period, even during the election day.

He said no election-related violence and major untoward incidents related to the May polls happened in the city.

“The election period is generally peaceful through the joint efforts of the police, military, Comelec including the cooperatio­n of the public ,” Hort ill os a said.
