FOLLOWING the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the city government, Department of Education (DepEd), and NTT Communications, Cagayan de Oro National High School added an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) course in a bid to mold its senior high school students to become "globally competitive."

Cagayan de Oro City was picked as a pilot area for "Project BEYOND," a program that promotes global innovations through e-Education.

E-Education is the delivery of education or any type of training by electronic teaching methods, which can be a computer or smartphone where teaching material is accessed by use of the internet.

City Mayor Oscar Moreno said that formal schools, including the senior high schools, will be involved in the said project.

It is also under Project BEYOND that education will be provided to the out-of-school youths

(OSYs) through the DepEd’s open high school program.

Moreno said education is important not just to those who are privileged but also to the OSYs as it will give opportunities for a better job or livelihood.

Recently, the City Government, DepEd-Cagayan de Oro

Division and the NTT Communications from Japan signed a memorandum of agreement for the implementation of Project BEYOND.

NTT Communications is the leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) solutions within NTT Group which ranks in the top 100 of the Fortune Global 500.
