TO `PROTECT’ FOOTBALL FROM INFIGHTING PFF prexy seeking 3rd term

-

BACOLOD CITY -- The present president of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) is seeking a third consecutive term to protect the sports from infighting.

“I was thinking of not running anymore, but because of the circumstances right now, I am forced to run again to protect football from infighting,” Mariano “Nonong” Araneta said in a press statement on Tuesday.

Araneta, who hails from Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, announced his reelection bid before 25

CHITO Loyzaga, a basketball legend like his late, lamented father, Caloy, has vibered me to say our national team has entered in the 29th Asian Baseball Championship on Oct. 14 to 20 in Taichung, Taipei.

The top three finishers among Japan, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, South Korea, China, Pakistan and the Philippines will qualify for the World Championship next year.

Chito said our team, headed by Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe “Ping” Remollo, will also use the Taiwan event as part of its preparation for the Manila Southeast Asian Games kicking off on Nov. 30.

Good luck, Chito, and to our players especially.

And, speaking of baseball, on 26 June 2017, Jonathan Juntado, who starred in my October 12 “All Write,” e-mailed me the following:

“Dear Mr. Mendoza,

“I hope this message finds you well. I received your e-mail from Jean Mondonedo-Ynot at the Sun Star. I would like to introduce myself to you. I’m Jonathan Juntado,

to make Cagayan de Oro proud,’’ he said.

He added that he imparts on his players that football is not all about winning but rather for players to play “For the Love of the Game”, and for coaches to “Make a Difference’.

“We will play as our motto says, “Win or lose we are one and we’re a team,’’ he added.

Players and coaches of Cagayan de Oro Division meet champion from Rosevale School and runner-up Corpus Christi were originally invited for the tournament but begged off because of conflicting school schedules.

Despite of short notice, the division meet third placer--the North District team composed of players from Bongbongan Elementary School in Kauswagan, Little Me Academy and International School-- responded.

Little Me Academy school owner, Ike Olendesca then accepted the challenge and then asked his newly appointed coach Marlon Merlin to form the team.

Merlin also thanked the parents and school officials for allowing the children to play. “Without them this team will never be formed,’’ he said.

Twelve teams from Bukidnon FA, Butuan-Agusan del Norte FA, Iligan-Lanao del Norte-Lanao del Sur FA, Maguindanao-Cotabato City FA, Mount Apo RFA, Sultan Kudarat FA, Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands RFA, and Zamboanga del Norte-Dipolog FA have earlier signified their participation. Host Davao City will will field in two teams.

Teams from Agusan del Sur-Surigao del Sur, Golden Davao RFA, South Cotabato-Sarangani-General Santos RFA, Zamboanga Basilan Sulu Tawitawi RFA, and Zamboanga del Sur-Pagadian RFA may also see action.
