1,365 Camiguin unemployed youth benefit from DOLE internship program
MAMBAJAO, Camiguin--The Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE)-X Government Internship Program (GIP) benefits 1,365 unemployed high school and college graduates in the province.
DOLE-X Camiguin Provincial Field Office (Cam PFO) Chief Emmanuel G. Toledo said the program implementation is in collaboration with the five local government units (LGUs) through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and the federation.
Simultaneous orientations were conducted to the beneficiaries, November 18 in all municipalities.
Toledo said the basics of occupational safety and health was also emphasized in the orientation to ensure safety at work, as well as their obligations and responsibilities as beneficiaries.
The work’s duration is on November 18 until December 17, 2019 in the different offices of the LGUs, national government agencies (NGAs) and barangay offices where the beneficiaries were assigned. The 22-day work has a daily salary of P365.
Meanwhile, all the local chief executives were very grateful to the program as it offered employment to their constituents in response to their constituents’ job search for employment.
Mahinog Municipal Mayor Rogelio Acle said, “Kini nga programa dako kaayo ug natabang sa among munisipyo kay daghan ug nahatagan ug trabaho bisan pa man mubo nga higayon. Ang importante nga naa’y income ang mga bag-ong graduates nga walay trabaho. Galisod gyud ang munisipyo sa paghatag ug trabaho sa mga bag-ong graduate kay limitado ang among pundo.”
(This program really helped our municipality since a lot of people were given jobs even at a short period of time. The important thing is that the new graduates who do not have jobs will get income. The municipality really have a difficulty in giving jobs to new graduates because we have limited funds)
Intern beneficiary Jay Ann Bonggay said, “For five months of being unemployed, this GIP is a timely answer. Though only temporary, the work experiences I will gain will surely boost my career development and providing me an edge over other fresh graduates with no work experience.”
GIP provides three to six months internship opportunities for high school, technical-vocational or college graduates who want to pursue a career in public service in either local or national government. The program aims to equip fresh graduates with work experience increasing their chances of employability.
