BOUNCING BACK FROM SETBACKS

- NIRMLA MOTOOMULL dr.nirmla_motoomull@ayahoo.com

SLOWLY but surely we have to become confident, successful and healthy again after having so much difficulties from this Covid-19 crisis. Herewith are some principles to definitely keep us from falling suddenly and quickly from whatever level or position we are already starting to skyrocket from this crisis.

First of all, we don’t just sit back and wait for our life to take a turn for the best life. But we need to be gentle to ourselves which means we are not our own worst enemy and harshest critic. If these negative voices emerge, we find ways to tone them down. Every now and then, we need to smile and says, “Well, I can’t win them all.”

Then we continuously remind ourselves that there is always a positive element in every negative situation.

We train our mind to find the positive and then capitalize on it instead of regretting what we have done and worrying about it. Again and again, we may shape our destiny by taking whatever steps are necessary. It could mean confiding in trusted friends for emotional support, speaking with colleagues seeking their assistance or consulting with a professional to gain a clearer sense of direction.

We maintain a healthy life perspective all the time. How do you look at setbacks in your life? Some of us who go through them are purified while others are burned by them. Its difference lies in how you have chosen to react. It is not what happens to you that shapes you but how you choose to react to them. Therefore when bouncing back from setbacks, choose to be victorious and not a victim.

In our bouncing back from setbacks, it is natural that most of us think, feel, act tired and discouraged along the way. Please turn to the Bible to feed your hopes and starve your fears because the Bible is filled with wisdom gleaned across the centuries. For instance, read and reread this encouragement from Philippians “I can do everything through Jesus Christ who gives me strength.” And then let Paul’s words ease the fear about the present and the future “God gives us the spirit of power, love and self-discipline all the time.”

May we always remember to pray to our Merciful Father that we overcome this danger of Covid-19 in our life the earliest possible time.
