Gingoog City records first confirmed COVID-19 case

GINGOOG CITY, Misamis Oriental, June 14 (PIA)--Gingoog City Mayor Eric G. Cañosa announced, June 13 during their virtual press briefing that two locally stranded individual­s (LSIs) from Tondo, Manila who came home to Gingoog City tested positive of COVID-19.

The family of three arrived, June 11 in the afternoon. The father, 30, worked as a constructi­on worker while the wife, 34, is a housewife who stayed with their 1-year-old child.

The family lived and worked from the said area in Luzon.

Upon their arrival, the three had tested positive via rapid test. To confirm their test, they were swab tested, June 12 for the RTPCR testing. Their results came out June 13, around 4:00 pm through the molecular laboratory of Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC), where the father and his child were diagnosed positive of COVID 19, while the wife tested negative.

Akong hangyuon ang mga katawhan nato sa atong siyudad nga dili nato sila idiskrimin­ar, ato sila pagaatiman­on ug tagaan ug bili tungod sila ug kitang tanan taga-Gingoog man,” Cañosa said.

Cañosa assured the public that there is no need to worry since the LSIs, upon their arrival via 2GO vessel, immediatel­y went to the city isolation unit at Pangasihan, Gingoog City.

The two COVID-19 positive patients have not yet returned home and are currently staying at the city isolation unit. Both patients are asymptomat­ic and have no signs of illness or fever.
