Marco Polo announces contest winners

Marco Polo Plaza is pleased to announce Roberto Logarta, Samantha June Boyer and Emdin Lucero as the winners of “Home with Mom on Mother’s Day,” a Facebook contest that celebrated the sweetest and most extraordinarily special women in our lives, our moms. Participants were asked to send in a photo of their moms with a caption via Facebook Messenger, answering the question: “What makes Mother’s Day 2020 extraordinarily special?” Everyone who joined the contest was given a chance to win a bundle of Marco Polo Plaza’s award-winning signature pastries like the Mango Cheesecake, Cafe Marco Ensaimadas and a box of Malicious Cookies which they claimed on Mother’s Day. After reading through many heartwarming entries, the amazing moms were selected to take home these delicious prizes. Emdin Lucero bagged the third prize because of her sweet message to her mom. She wrote: “This year is an extraordinary Mother’s day because we only get to hug and kiss you through video chat. Your love for all of us is extraordinary and we love you very much! Hope to see you soon!” The second prize was given to Samantha Boyer with her retelling of their favorite mommy-daughter activities. She shared: “My mom is my forever friend! This year, Mother’s Day is extra special because of this coronavirus pandemic. She taught us how to read the Bible and do Bible study with my cousins every Sunday. I love singing, so my mom and I sing most of the time while doing chores. Videoke is our favorite hobby.” First place was awarded to Roberto Logarta and the story of how his mom became a supermom to her kids and the community. He told Marco Polo Plaza: “Cooking our comfort food is our mama’s way of showing her love for us. All special occasions that we spend at home, food served to guests, are all mama’s homemade viands. Mother’s day is special since I get to bond with mama by helping her prepare cooked packed meals for the frontliners of VCMC and the homeless housed in San Nicolas Gym.” This mom deserved the best and his son took home with him the grand prize of our award-winning pastries, a whole layer of Mango Cheesecake, a box of three Café Marco Ensaimadas and a box of Malicious Cookies. In these uncertain times, it is important to remember that special moments still need to be celebrated.
