New oval to reopen tomorrow
Region 7 ready to defend title in Prisaa national meet; New track oval to be unveiled tomorrow
University of Cebu (UC) said that every angle of the hosting has been covered, including a very festive opening ceremony.
“The preparation of the opening ceremony has been completely done. Ricky Ballesteros had helped us with the preparations of the opening ceremony and we all know Ricky won’t settle for anything less than the best,” Ricablanca said.
According to Ballesteros, the opening ceremony will showcase the songs, dances and culture of Cebu and the rest of the Central Visayas.
“The opening program is something to look forward to. It is very colorful and festive,” Ballesteros said.
The delegations will start arriving today and the organizers expect more than 4,000 athletes, coaches and officials to participate in this weeklong, multi-event competition.
“Security is also an issue. Although Cebu is not like Mindanao, which allocated a huge amount for security because of a volatile situation last year, we also had a huge budget for security to ensure the safety of all the participants,” Ricablanca said.
All regions will send their delegation except for the National Capital Region, which, was also absent in the annual sports collegiate games last year.
Last year, Prisaa 7 took the overall championship after NCR opted not to send their athletes.
Being the host, Prisaa 7 has the biggest number of athletes at 287, while the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (Armm) sent the least with only 36 athletes.
Aside from Fr. Uy, Ricablanca and Ballesteros, those who were at the press conference yes- terday includes Commission on Higher Education regional director Amelia Biglete.
