Woman goes up against demolition team in Talisay

-

TROUBLE erupted during a scheduled demolition of shanties in a lot owned by lawyer Raul Sesbreno in Barangay Lawaan 2, Talisay City yesterday morning.

The family of Rissah Amahan threw water at the demolition team led by Court Sheriff Constancio Alimurong around 10 a.m.

The demolition order was issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 18 Judge Gilbert Moises last Jan. 24 yet.

Affected homes are those inside lots 1 and 3255-A.

The two-hectare property owned by Sesbreño was home to about 46 residents, including Amahan and her family.

Just in time

Amahan’s husband Jesser almost came to blows with Alimurong, when the court sheriff attempted to explain his side.

Operatives of the Talisay City Police Station led by Supt. Eddie Recamara arrived before tension could escalate.

Amahan, in an interview with reporters, accused Alimurong of enforcing an order that had already lapsed.

She said they refuse to vacate their house because they are not in the list of 46 residents whose homes are up for demolition.

Amahan was earlier detained after she and members of the Datu Alimaong Tribe entered Sesbreno’s lot and tried to rebuild a house there two weeks ago.

But Alimurong, in a separate interview, said they will implement the order because there is no motion preventing them from doing so.

No papers, no stay

“It is their business to show me documents that would attest that they are the owners of the lot. But if they could not present it, we will continue on what was mandated to us by the court,” Alimurong said in Cebuano.

He also said that while Amahan’s name was not included in the written order, her name is in the list of other residents living there.
