Groups to join Earth Day parade tomorrow

-

BIKERS and roller blade skaters will join tomorrow’s parade from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in some streets in Cebu City for the celebration of Earth Day.

The parade will help advocate for a non-polluted city, said Vince Cinches, 350.org country director.

Different groups will join the activity, which is supported by the Cebu City Government, said Cinches.

The parade will start in Plaza Independencia, passing through some parts of the North Reclamation Area, to Mabolo

then to I.T Park in Lahug.

Lane

From Lahug, participants will go to the Provincial Capitol then walk to Fuente Osmeña to Cebu City Hall then back to Plaza Independecia.

“The participants will just have to occupy almost half of the lane. It won’t take that long,” said Cinches.

Bicycle

“We are promoting here the low-carbon nonpolluted mode of transportation in celebrating Earth Day,” added Cinches.

He also raised the im- portance of the people using bicycles as their mode of transportation.

“Bikers are entitled to use the road, not just other motorized vehicles, so they should also be given lanes for them to safely drive their bike,” he said.

Cinches added that they already asked for the assistance of the City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) for the installation of the bike racks.

The bike racks will separate the bikers from other motorized vehicles.
