1,700 JOIN IGNATIUS RUN
Large turnout to fund construction of 10 houses; Tabal beats delos Santos in women’s 16K
SOME 1,700 runners joined the third edition of the St. Ignatius Run 2012 at the Insular Square, Tabok, Mandaue City yesterday.
The number of participants helped raised enough funds to support the on-going construction of 10 houses and a multipurpose building of the Sacred Heart-Ateneo de Cebu Gawad Kalinga Village in Maguikay, Mandaue City, one of the major projects of the SHS-Ateneo de Cebu Alumni Association Batch 87 in partnership with Gawad Kalinga.
Last year’s edition drew 1,200 runners and the proceeds went to the victims of Typhoon Sendong and a medical and dental mission.
In yesterday’s race, Josphat Kiptanui and Cebu’s running princess Mary Joy Tabal took the men and women’s 16K title.
Kiptanui clocked 53:56 to beat Douglas Mbui (54:56), while Francis Kakui got third place in 57:28.
In the women’s division, Tabal crossed the finish line alone in 1:04:02, more than three minutes ahead of delo Santos who got second place in 1:07:33. Christy Tutor got third place in 1:19.40.
Lovely Andrin secured the 6K women’s title in 23:55, while Aiza Suaybaguio (24:27) and Jhean Andrin (24:50) got the next two spots.
In the men’s division, Abraham Missos ran away with the title in 19:17, beating Joebert Carolino (19:44) and John Daryll Manos (20:09).
Former football star turned runner Jose Maria Navarro bagged the 3K title in 12:36, beating Zachary Huang (12:50) and Joseph Angelo Costelo (13:13)
Celina Mae Revalde took the title in the 3K women’s in 16:42 over Kate Wrina Barcenas (17:19) and Veia Marie Nery (18:01).
