USC nails third win over CIT-U
USC Warriors end elimination round with win over USPF
THE University of San Carlos (USC) bounced back from a 35-point loss to finish its elimination round with a 0.500 mark following an 82-77 win over the coach-less Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CITU) Wildcats in the 2012 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation In. basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last night.
Also finishing at an even winloss slate were the defending champions University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, which beat the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 69-63, in the main game yesterday, while CIT-U’s high school team beat the Don Bosco Technological Center, 72-60.
USC, UC and SWU all finished with a 3-3 card but the Cobras took the no.3 spot because of the superior quotient of 1.251. UC got the second best of 0.993 and USC got the lowest at 0.842.
SWU and UC earned the twiceto-beat incentives in the quarterfinal round, which will start today. In the high school division, CIT-U will face UC at 1 p.m., while USC takes on the Cebu Eastern College Dragons at 2:45. In the college games, SWU will face CIT and UC takes on USC at 6:15.
The Wildkittens and the Baby Warriors got the twice to beat incentive along with defending champions UV Baby Lancers in the high school scenario.
The Warriors were sloppy in the opening quarter before Nico Magat and Charles Pepito rescued them in the next three quarters.
Magat scored 23 points, including 10 in the momentumshifting third period, while Pepito had all of his 14 points in the final quarter.
Floyd Taboada tried to boost the Wildcats and scored 10 of his 30 points in the fourth period by but by then it was too late.
In the main game, Quinton Brian Heruela played another monster game as he anchored the Webmasters in both offense and defense.
Heruela scored 31 points and Kim Gomez had 13 for UC, while Fritz Dajalos topscored for USPF with 14.
