3 men charged with robbery, slay

-

FOR allegedly robbing a security agency and killing a janitor, three men will face trial in court after they were charged with robbery with homicide by the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office.

Prosecutor Aida Sanchez found evidence to indict Leopoldo “Polding” Cañete, a certain JohnJohn and Jason for killing Arnel Montecalvo.

No bail was set for the accused.

Sanchez resolved the case after the accused failed to file their counter-affidavits, to answer the witnesses’ allegations.

Last April, the accused barged into the premises of St. Martin Detective and Protective Training Institute in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City.

They allegedly took a laptop, cellular phones, and two guns.

Afterwards, they attacked and killed Montecalvo, a stay-in employee. In his affidavit, 16-year-old Roy (not his real name) said he and the accused planned to rob the security agency located a few meters from where they live last April 5 at 11:50 p.m.

“I personally knew (them) for we were childhood friends and neighbors,” he said.

Since he was bothered, Roy declined to go with them two days later.

Cañete and his companions later gave the stolen items to Roy for disposal. But the witness refused.

“They further confided that they may have killed a guard inside the establishment (because they) bludgeoned him when (the person) woke up,” he said.

Roy said he learned that the laptop was thrown by Cañete’s mother and the accused left their neighborhood.

Another witness, a 21-year-old man, said he heard Roy and his co-accused talking of robbing the agency.
