POEA warns of bogus ‘Unicef’ job offers

MANILA—The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) alerted Saturday the public against bogus job offers that is supposedly coming from the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef).

In an advisory, POEA Administrator Hans Cacdac said the agency has been informed by the Unicef Manila on the circulation of e-mailed job offers supposedly sent by the latter.

“Recipients of similar recruitment e-mails should disregard them,” said Cacdac in the advi- sory released Friday.

The labor official said the fake e-mail, which was sent by a Dr. Michael Wallace, informs the applicant of being accepted to the job and that training will take place in London after payment of fees has been completed.

For its part, Unicef acknowledged the existence of fictitious employment offers and that many “consist of an alleged offer of employment or contract with Unicef in return for the payment of fees or providing personal or banking information.”

“Unicef does not charge a fee at any stage of the recruitment process (application, interview, meeting, traveling, processing, training, or any other fees),” said Unicef in its website.

It added that Unicef only advertises its employ- ment opportunities on its global employment website or on the website of its country offices/national committees while also using “bona fide and established media, newspapers, and online job boards” to disseminate the vacancies. (Sunnex)
