PINKY Aquino-Abellada, sister of President Benigno Aquino III, turned over a classroom for kindergarten pupils in Barangay Tawason, Mandaue City last Friday.

The classroom, which cost P1 million, was built through the collaboration of Agapp Foundation, Aboitiz Land Inc., Department of Education (DepEd) and National Bookstore.

Aquino- Abellada is the chair of the Aklat, Gabay, Aruga Tungo sa Pagangat at Pag-asa (Agapp) Foundation, which has been building classrooms for kindergarten pupils nationwide.

The classroom in Barangay Tawason will benefit pupils of Calixto Yongco Sr. Elementary School.

“I have two other sisters helping Agapp. We made a vow to do this. Even if Noynoy is no longer the president, we will continue to do this to make you feel our love. Thank you for all that you have done for us,” Aquino-Abellada said in Tagalog during the turnover ceremony.

Collaboration

Aboitiz Land Inc. constructed the building while Agapp provided the tables, chairs and the teachers' training.

National Bookstore provided the books and other instructional materials while the DepEd provided the teachers.

Their collaboration has produced 21 classrooms this year, four of which are in Cebu: Tawason in Mandaue City, Punta in San Remigio, Garing in Consolacion, and Sangat in San Fernando.

“We believe that education will prepare the youth as future leaders,” said Jon Ramon Aboitiz, president of Aboitiz Foundation.
