Cesante ‘leader’ of mayors in 2nd district: Pablo John
ONE Cebu Party is looking for new candidates for the Provincial Board (PB), after PB Members Wilfredo Caminero and Peter John Calderon left One Cebu and took their oath before the Liberal party.
Rep. Pablo John Garcia (Cebu, 3rd district) said One Cebu Party will start consulting the town mayors of the second district.
He said they considered Dalaguete Mayor Ronald Cesante as the leader among the mayors of the second district.
During a press conference last Friday initiated by One Cebu officials at the Provincial Capitol, Rep. Pablo Garcia (Cebu, 2nd district), House deputy speaker and Pablo John’s father, expressed appreciation for the efforts of Cesante in the development of Dalaguete.
“In the future, you will see Mayor Ronnie not only in Dalaguete but in the entire district,” the elder Garcia said.
He also said Dalaguete is progressive because of the initiative of the town mayor.
He also said Cesante has given more importance to the farmers through the town’s incentives leading to Barangay Mantalungon, the veg- etable basket not only of Cebu but of the Visayas.
When asked during the press conference if they are considering fielding the mayor to run for the PB, the elder Garcia said the party has yet to talk about the names to fill the positions.
The deputy speaker will seek reelection in the second district in 2013.
There were 11 mayors and a vice mayor from the district present during the press conference at the Capitol. They expressed their full support to One Cebu.
One Cebu, headed by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia called for a press con to end rumors that there are only two town mayors in second district left with the party.
Cesante said even if he is not officially a member of One Cebu, he will encourage his constituents to support the party.
Badian Mayor Robburt Librando, who was present on Friday, told Sun.Star Cebu that after the presscon, the mayors had a light discussion and asked Cesante if he will run for a seat in the PB.
“As of now, it has never crossed his mind to pursue a wider area of public service. His focus is Dalaguete,” Librando said.
Pablo John said they have not sat down to discuss possible PB candidates. He is the party’s secretary general and candidate for governor in 2013.
Sun.Star Cebu tried to call Cesante but the mayor’s wife answered the call and said he was on a meeting, and had left his phone at home.
