Man, 49, runs amok, beheads kin in Liloan

-

A 49-YEAR-OLD man was arrested after he was accused of beheading his relative in Barangay San Tabla, Liloan, Cebu last Saturday night.

Francisco Tundag was arrested by the local police in a follow-up operation shortly after he allegedly attacked Bobet Canatan, 40. The victim also suffered hack wounds in his body.

Police found Tundag sleeping in his house with blood still on his hands.

Tundag will undergo a psychiatric evaluation. He is reportedly suffering a nervous breakdown.

PO3 Renato Pendo of the Liloan Police Station told Sun.Star Cebu the incident happened past 6 p.m. when Canatan arrived in the area on board his motorcycle.

Canatan, together with his companions Metchie Salundaguit and Armando Sungcal, reportedly saw Tundag on the road brandishing a bolo. They stopped and alighted from their vehicles.

Tundag allegedly started waving his bolo at them and that prompted the three to run away.

Tundag, however, caught up with Canatan after a brief chase.

Pendo said they recovered Canatan’s head about five meters away from where his body was found.

The police arrested Tundag inside his house. Two bolos, a green polo shirt and denim pants with stains, believed to be blood, were recovered by the police.

Canatan was taken to Maturan Funeral Homes for autopsy.

Tundag, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Superbalita, said he wanted to get even with Canatan.

“Gipasanginlan ko niya nga apil ko sa NPA (He accused me of being a member of the New People’s Army),” he said.

Tundag claimed that Canatan threatened him last week while he was picking coconuts. He was supposed to leave for Bukidnon in Mindanao to be with his wife and five children.

After beheading Canatan, Tundag reportedly went home and sleep.

“Gipukaw nalang ko sa pulis (I was awakened by the police),” he said.
