BACK in high school, Gerald Anthony “Samsam” V. Gullas Jr. wanted to be a professional basketball player. At 27 years old, Samsam is playing a different ball game. Come 2013, he will replace his grandfather, Cebu Rep. Eduardo Gullas, as congressman of the first district of Cebu. He is running unopposed in the elections.
Samsam hopes to be remembered by his constituents not just for his last name.

Academic and leadership feats gird the political neophyte for the tasks ahead.
Samsam graduated with honors during his baccalaureate studies at the Centre for International Education. And he was a Presidential Awardee for Academics and Excellence of then president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
A management major, Samsam is assistant vice president for administration and finance at the family-owned University of the Visayas. He is also working toward a master’s degree at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business. Justin K. Vestil
