“DREAM big. Nothing is impossible,” said the 29-year-old president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Abejo Waters Corp.
After completing a management information system course in Northwood University in Florida, USA, in 2004, Gabino “Borgy” Abejo Jr. established his own business, GABS Purified Drinking Water, which he ran for three years from January 2005 to 2008.
In 2005, Borgy’s family set up a family corporation, Abejo Waters Corp., which supplies bulk water to the Metropolitan Cebu Water District. During his four years as executive vice president and chief operating officer, the family firm was awarded as one of the “Top 20,000 Corporations” of the Philippines by the Bureau of Internal Revenue.
Borgy became president and CEO in 2010. The company has since gone beyond the Visayas and acquired projects in Luzon and Mindanao.
At 27, Borgy was named the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Philippines 2010, the youngest awardee since the start of the competition created by global professional services firm Ernst & Young Foundation and SGV Foundation Inc.
Borgy sees his firm becoming a global player in the next 10 years as well as a powerhouse player in Asia.
