CIE British School is now ISO Certified
The Centre for International Education (CIE) British School has earned certification for its Quality Management Systems from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It is the first international school in Cebu, and among a few progressive educational institutions in the Philippines, to be ISO-certified.
CIE was issued its ISO 9001:2008 certification by independent quality system certification body TUV Rheinland last December 18, 2012. CIE Founder and Chairman Prof. Nelia Cruz Sarcol and CIE President Engr. Reynante B. Cruz received the certificates covering CIE Main Campus, CIE Cebu Campus-Child Development Centre of CIE (CDCC), and CIE Makati Campus.
ISO is an independent, nongovernment organization made up of members from national standards bodies of 164 countries. According to its website, ISO is the world’s largest developer of voluntary international standards, which gives stateof-the-art specifications for products, services and good practices. It derives its short name ISO from the Greek word “isos” which means “equal.”
The ISO 9001:2008 certification means that the CIE Management System meets the highest standard of a Quality Management System recognized and accepted globally by organizations who seek excellence in all aspects of their operations.
“This certification from ISO marks still another milestone in our legacy of continuous development,” said Sarcol, who has steered CIE to many firsts in its 27 years of service.
Foremost among these achievements is the partnership of CIE with one of the most distinguished educational institutions in the world–the University of Cambridge of the United Kingdom. This gave Filipino students and those of other nationalities the opportunity to earn qualifications that are “recognized by over 12,000 governments, educational institutions and corporations around the world.”
CIE became the first school in the Philippines to be internationally validated by University of Cambridge through its Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES), the first school in the Philippines to become a Cambridge International Centre of UCLES, and the first school in the Philippines to introduce GCE “A” and IGCSE.
CIE is the first school in the Philippines accredited by the University of Cambridge International Examinations as International Associate Partner. In 2004, CIE was authorized by Cambridge ESOL as a Centre to administer Cambridge examinations in English for Speakers of the Other Languages. In 2011, CIE was authorized to be referred to as a Cambridge International School, reflecting better its relationship with the University of Cambridge.
This beneficial relationship prepared CIE to assimilate its curriculum with the British educational system and seamlessly adopt the K plus 12 program of the Philippine educational system. (PR)
