-

A MONEYLENDER was gunned down outside his house in Barangay Bonbon, Aloguinsan, Cebu past 9 p.m. last Friday.

Victim Victor Tausa, 36, died from a gunshot wound in the stomach.

According to PO2 Solomon Cardosa of the Aloguinsan Police Station, Tausa was inside his house together with some relatives watching a television show shortly before the attack.

“Someone called his name from outside, prompting the victim to go out,” said Cardosa in Bisaya.

When Tausa stepped outside the door, a gunshot was heard. Tausa was then found to have been shot.

He was taken to the Pinamungajan District Hospital, but he died on the way there.

Cardosa said one of the motives they are looking into in Tausa’s killing is his moneylending business.

In Compostela town, an alleged shootout reportedly transpired between a team of roving police officers and two robbery suspects on board a motorcycle last Friday evening.

No one was reportedly hurt in the incident. Police, though, noted a dent on the plate num- ber of their service patrol car, which was believed to have been hit by a slug from the firearm of the fleeing suspects.

Sr. Insp. Jaime Tolentino of the Compostela Police Station said he sent a team to patrol the national highway in Sitio Gimbal, Barangay Canamucan because of the reported several robbery incidents in the area.

SPO1 Larry Fernandez and PO2 Federico Hopia who were riding on the Toyota Hilux patrol car passed by near a resort when they spotted two men on board a moving black motorcycle.

Just as the motorcycle passed by the patrol car, the passenger then fired at them five times.

A brief chase ensued, with the police shooting back at the men on motorcycle. The police, however, opted not to fire more shots to avoid hitting bystanders.

The police, however, lost the two men during the chase.
