Nature watching

-

Last Sunday, as I was going through the pages of our newspaper, I came across the page just before this column with a colorful picture of the swan. I got struck by the beauty of the swan, and the blue color that dominated the photo. How many times you and I have seen such scenery when we travel and just take it for granted?

That's right, Kidsters. This three summer months of March, April and May, take time to stop and watch the beauty of nature that surrounds us. You can even draw what you see and send it to Tita Mia here.

Living in a city like Cebu with all its progress and prosperity can make us forget that just a few miles away, there is this gift of our natural resources waiting to be appreciated by you and me.

Have you ever stopped to appreciate the colors and scent of flowers and trees in and out of Cebu? How many patches of greenery do you still see inside cities here and around the country? When was the last time you saw a swan in a lake or heard birds tweeting outside your window?

Do we have to go out of the city to watch the beauty of nature? Cebu is one of the tourist destinations in the Philippines and we are proud of our historical sites, resorts, nature spots and the like.

So this summer, try to do some nature watching and write to us on how you felt doing this. Tell us also what you and your neighbors are doing to preserve our environment. Better yet, send us your drawings to show that indeed, you are grateful that we still have many beautiful landscapes and seascapes around us.
